It’s been busy week all round, with Christine having a new hip on Monday afternoon (being supported by Simon). I have spent a bit more time at home as Monty’s timetable was very full (squeezing 5 days of therapy into 4) and the kids are both at home revising. I have been going in when Monty is free and sitting in some therapy sessions but lots of them Monty has been going to himself.
I couldn’t get hold of Monty on Tuesday morning which was strange, he did eventually call me at after he had, had a therapy session. He used one of the script phases we have been working on in speech “I need help” in relation to using his phone. I said I would help when I arrived and I eventually figured out that he had used all 50Gb of data on this phone this month ! Impressive. I bought him some more data, and got his iPad on the wifi, so hopefully all resolved.
We went out for a walk and then a meal with Al and Ness on Tuesday night, and although Monty was very tired (full day of therapy) and found it difficult at times, we had a really lovely time, and gave us a glimpse at new normal life.

Yesterday morning we walked to Brunswick Centre for brunch and did some speech practice there. Although Monty is getting better at reading I tested him on lots of key words (it, on, she, he etc) and he is still struggling with those, so I am going to find a way to focus on learning those next, as think that will help. His colours and shapes are now much better. After lunch I left Monty to go to Speech, OT and walking group by himself. When I called last night to see how the day had gone he started with “I have news”- he was very pleased that he had walked over 7000 steps – he started wearing his Apple Watch 2 weeks ago and his steps have gradually increased. It turned out that in OT he had walked to the shopped to buy the food for the salad that he is due to make in the morning. In fact he tells me they “walked in a bit of a semi circle” (making good use of those shapes we have been working on).
We have a meeting on Thursday to discuss Monty’s progress on this goals so far, so assuming I will find out more about his shopping trip from the therapist that took him (and how it went from her point of view).
Monty is still really disliking living in an institution, however he pleased with all the progress he is making, so is hanging on in there for now.
